Employers must provide the document upon request, detailing employment history and last salary

In the United Arab Emirates, employees ending their contracts are entitled to receive an experience certificate from their employers, as mandated by Article 13, Clause 11 of Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021. This certificate, which must be issued free of charge, serves as an official record of employment history, including the duration of employment, job title, and last salary received.

The UAE Labour Law specifies that the certificate should not contain any information that could harm the employee’s reputation or hinder future job opportunities. Employers are required to provide this document upon request when an employment contract concludes.

To obtain an experience certificate, employees can request it directly from their employer’s HR department. Additionally, a digital employment history certificate can be acquired through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) app, valid for one month and verifiable by employers.

While not mandatory for every job application, some employers may request an experience certificate during recruitment or background checks to confirm previous employment. It can also assist in documenting professional experience or resolving employment history discrepancies.
