Bitcoin slipped under the $80,000 mark, trading at $79,965.82 and recording a 1.09% decline as of the latest session, according to CoinDesk data. The move came as traders appeared to reduce risk exposure ahead of the upcoming U.S. Federal Reserve meeting, with the broader cryptocurrency market also experiencing declines.
Ethereum, the second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalisation, saw its price fall to $2,314.39, down 2.19% over the same period. Other major tokens, including XRP and Solana, also registered losses, with XRP trading at $1.29, down 1.91%, and Solana at $101.00, down 1.52% on the day. The CoinDesk 20 index, which tracks the largest digital assets, fell to $2,188.55, representing a 1.60% decrease.
The declines in digital asset prices occurred as market participants monitored macroeconomic developments, particularly the anticipated policy signals from the U.S. Federal Reserve. The upcoming Fed meeting has prompted many traders to reassess their positions, contributing to the observed de-risking across major cryptocurrencies.
Altcoins followed the downward trend, with Hyperliquid (HYPE) dropping 1.52% to $75.55. In contrast, Tron (TRX) was one of the few exceptions, rising 0.42% to $0.33. The overall sentiment in the crypto market remained cautious, as reflected in the broad-based declines across leading tokens and indices.
