Entrepreneurs are increasingly relying on AI agents to operate businesses with minimal or no traditional staff, according to a recent report by the International Business Times. The trend, highlighted on 2 November 2026, shows that artificial intelligence agents are now handling tasks such as customer service, sales, marketing, and financial management, allowing founders to run companies largely on their own.
Payments company Stripe noted that the number of “solopreneurs” earning more than $1 million more than doubled between 2023 and 2025. The company also reported that the number of individuals surpassing $5 million and $10 million in revenue nearly tripled over the same period. Stripe did not attribute this growth solely to artificial intelligence, but the figures indicate a significant shift in how small businesses are structured and operated.
One example is Claire Vo, founder of ChatPRD, an AI platform designed to assist product managers with creating specifications, project planning, and development organisation. Vo stated that her company, which has over 100,000 users, employs only herself as a full-time human staff member. Instead of hiring a conventional team, she has developed a group of nine AI agents, each assigned to a specific function. For instance, Sam handles sales inquiries, Polly manages her calendar and prepares meeting briefings, and Howie analyses podcast performance and recommends topics and guests. Additional agents support marketing and customer service tasks.
In an interview with the Solo Founders podcast, Vo explained her approach: “I’ve built this constellation of nine agents so that I’m not the single point of failure.” She emphasised the value of having several specialised AI agents rather than relying on a single system for all operations.
The use of AI agents is not limited to the technology sector. Vlad Stan, who runs Kubrio, an educational platform where children can create films, games, comics, and robot designs, is the company’s only employee. Stan also uses AI agents to manage daily operations, demonstrating the broader applicability of this model across industries.
