Indian rupee and Philippine peso near historical lows against the dirham, prompting remittance considerations

Dubai: UAE expatriates are finding increased value in their remittances as Asian currencies, including the Indian rupee and Philippine peso, continue to hover near historical lows. As of November 4, 2026, the Indian rupee is trading at Dh25.82, slightly weaker than the previous session’s Dh25.77. This means that an expat would need to spend Dh38.77 to exchange for Rs1000.

The Indian rupee has shown a slight weakening against the dirham, marking its fourth consecutive day of gains, having increased by 18 paise to 94.56 against the US dollar. This movement comes as the dollar fell against most major currencies ahead of the US midterm election results, with expectations of a strong Democratic performance.

The Philippine peso has also shown some resilience, trading at Dh17.22, unchanged from its previous close. However, elevated oil prices are exacerbating losses across emerging Asian currencies, with countries like the Philippines facing increased import costs.

Current exchange rates as of 08:45 am on November 4 show the Indian rupee at 25.82, the Pakistani rupee at 75.8, and the Philippine peso at 17.22, all against the UAE dirham. These favorable rates are prompting many households to reconsider their remittance strategies, weighing whether to lock in current levels or wait for further market shifts.
